Egypt (WorldTourismNews) - It was American students in Washington who started Earth Day on the 22nd of April 1970. Since then, more and more countries and organizations around the world are participating every year in this event. On the 25th anniversary in 1995, already 150 countries of the world were joining.

We should all do something for our world - if every one of us will do something small, together we might be able to change something big as well. Our environment and especially the Red Sea are an important aspect in Hurghada. Therefore, the staff of the Steigenberger Al Dau Beach Hotel, Ilios Dive Club, and hotel guests celebrated Earth Day 2009, by cleaning up the bay, the beach and the gardens of the hotel.

At Ilios Dive Club, the staff are always telling their guests on the daily diving yachts: Much rather than being upset about garbage underwater, one should bring it to the surface and throw it in the garbage bin.

With the water's currents, there is always garbage coming into the bay from the sea. Within 30 minutes, dive instructor Tarek together with Sven and Rafel managed to collect three big bags of garbage. It was a small step, but a good way to help to protect the environment!

Actions like Earth Day are giving us the chance to fight for a better awareness concerning our environment.
