Stansted Airport reopens after protest by Plane Stupid

Flights from Stansted Airport were disrupted this morning after environmental activists staged a protest over the airport's expansion.

 

The airport was closed to all flights for five hours after the protestors from Plane Stupid broke into a secure area of the airport at 3.15am. Police arrested 39 people and the airport reopened at 8am this morning.

 

The protest prompted the cancellation or delay of around 50 flights, causing chaos at aiport check-in desks. A Stansted airport spokeswoman said passengers should check with their airline before travelling.
